<p>The study aimed to evaluate doses of chromium propionate supplementation in the diet of ewes and to measure its impact on their offspring. The experimental treatment consisted of a basal diet without chromium (CR0), 0.5&#xa0;mg (CR0.5), 1.0&#xa0;mg (CR1.0), and 1.5&#xa0;mg (CR1.5) of chromium propionate per ewe per day. For this study, 69 confirmed pregnant crossbred ewes (60 ± 4&#xa0;kg body weight; 3 ± 1 years old) were used. The diets were fed during the last 50 days of pregnancy and 80 days of lactation. The lambs were not given chromium. After weaning, the male lambs were immediately fed in a feedlot for 52 days. In lambs, the performance, carcass and meat characteristics, viscera, and bone density were measured. The experimental design employed was a randomized block design, and treatment and type of gestation were evaluated. There was an increasing linear effect of the dose of chromium in the maternal diet on the weight of the lambs from birth to 45 days of age (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). The pH of the meat after slaughter had a decreasing linear effect with increasing chromium supplementation (<i>P</i> = 0.0214). CR1.0 lambs had less kidney fat (<i>P</i> = 0.0345). There was an interaction between chromium supplementation and type of gestation (single or twin) for liver, kidney, loin, shank and neck weight (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05), with better results for CR1.5. There was no effect of fetal programming on meat quality and bone density parameters. The type of gestation affected performance, carcass and bone density. Chromium propionate supplementation in the ewe’s diet was found to influence fetal programming, with a dose of 1.5&#xa0;g/animal/day producing positive effects on the offspring, particularly by increasing body weight up to weaning, improving meat pH, and enhancing visceral weight.</p>
