Contribution to the valorization of potato (Solanum tuberosum L) by-products in the broilers feed formulation: physicochemical characterization and nutritional value of potato peels

In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of agricultural by-products as feed ingredients in poultry diet. Agro industry waste from potato (Solanum tuberosum L) has important nutritional value and properties and can therefore be included in poultry rations to reduce feed costs. This study aims to evaluate the chemical composition by analyzing the GC-MS, mineral and vitamin content of dried potato peels. Three different potato varieties, namely, SPUNTA, RUDOLPH and MANITOU were peeled. The peels were dried and converted into a fine powder and studied to gain insight into their possible use in feed formulation. The results shows that potato peels are a source of dietary energy due to their carbohydrate levels and high protein content. They contain a variety of micronutrients such as vitamins (A, E, C, B2, B3, B9, and B12) in addition to its remarkable level of minerals and biologically active compounds. Even when thawed, the fat content is low but has a variety of FAME.
