<p>The growing demand for camel milk, driven by its recognized therapeutic properties, has prompted breeders to focus on increasing production. Achieving this goal requires a thorough understanding of lactation dynamics, breeding systems, and nutrition. To address these needs, we monitored milk production performances during whole lactation in 268 Targui female dromedaries in the Tamanrasset region of southern Algeria. The research included a comprehensive assessment of livestock health, dietary practices, and breeding systems, which revealed that sedentary systems were more prominent in livestock farming, followed by semi-nomadic systems. Nomadic systems remained dominant, emphasizing animal fattening. Milk production varied significantly throughout the monitoring period. Key parameters included total milk yield (TMY) of 3177.81 ± 270.89 kg, lactation length (LL) of 414.97 ± 30.92 days, daily milk yield (DMY) of 7.66 ± 0.42 kg, a persistence coefficient (PC) of 92.4 ± 0.71%, and milk yield during standard lactation (MYSL) of 2533.42 ± 112.95 kg. Milk production peaked in the tenth month of lactation, averaging 233 kg, highlighting the substantial milk-yielding capacity of Targui dromedaries. The lactation curve showed initial milk yields ranging between 224 and 333 kg, gradually declining after the 14th month to between 71 and 174 kg. The LL peaking at 406 days and reaching a minimum of 309 days and the DMY reached a maximum of 10 kg, with most dromedaries yielding between 6.5 and 8.5 kg per day. Significant differences in milk production parameters (TMT, DMY, and PC) were observed among the Mahri, Marouki, and Azzerghaf subgroups (<i>P</i> = 0.022–0.002). Fattening practices had little impact on milk performance, with differences generally non-significant (<i>P</i> &gt; 0.05), except for the PC (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.02). This study underscores the high milk-yielding potential of Targui dromedaries, shaped by genetic diversity and environmental conditions.</p>
