Logical Inferentialism Implies Logical Idealism
摘要
Logical inferentialism is the view that the meaning of a logical expression consists in its inferential role. It is often contrasted with logical realism, the view that there exists mind-independent, metaphysically privileged logical structure. While logical inferentialism is typically regarded as metaphysically neutral, I argue that this neutrality is illusory: standard inferentialism entails logical idealism, the view that logical truth and consequence are mind-dependent. Moreover, I argue that logical idealism is defensible: rather than undermining inferentialism, it reveals its deep connection to contemporary forms of idealism.
