摘要

We present a queueing and energy consumption analysis to study the delay-energy trade-off for advanced sleep modes for the base stations in 5G radio access networks. To this end, we propose a queueing model with vacations and setup times and find recursive equations for the expected delay and energy consumption. The model supports an arbitrary number of sleep modes as well as random deactivation and reactivation times. The results are then used to investigate the optimal sleep strategy using multi-objective optimisation. We find that for Poisson traffic, the introduction of multiple sleep stages is sub-optimal.
