Determination of Material Hardness Characteristics at the Elastic Limit by Instrumented Indentation
摘要
The maximum elastic strain and the elastic limit were determined using a new methodology for processing and analyzing the results of instrumented indentation. It was found that the conversion factor (the ratio of hardness to elastic limit) of the studied materials varies from 3.43 to 1.59 when a standard Berkovich indenter is used. This ratio is dependent on the elastic modulus. A formula is proposed to determine the conversion factor, taking into account the elastic modulus value. Various approaches that consider the effect of the elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio on hardness determination are compared for different materials.
