General Assessment of the NPP Containment Strength Hit by Air Weapons

By now, power facilities had been hit by numerous air attacks, and a major part of the existing TPP and CHP was destroyed. Obviously, in the context of full-scale aggression, the danger of accidental or intentional damage to nuclear infrastructure facilities by air weapons increased dramatically. Accordingly, the need is generated to understand the level of their potential damage. First, it refers to structures and buildings important for safety at a nuclear power plant site: containment with fencing (if any) and building of standby diesel generators. These facilities were once designed to withstand extreme meteorological phenomena and the potential impact of a shock wave or a plane crash. However, the threats and weapons currently used in military operations were not given due consideration. The strength assessment of buildings and structures important for safety is of particular significance since it has to overcome certain challenges related to the initial data collection on the types of weapons, the evolution of assessment and calculation procedures, choice and substantiation of certain assumptions, and application of appropriate tools to solve the relevant problems.
