Progress in International Standardization of Remote Sensing Data and Products

Remote sensing is one of the major data sources of geographic information and is widely used in many fields. With the development of spaceborne and airborne remote sensing systems, the amount of remote sensing data and product is increasing rapidly. This has greatly promoted the necessity of developing remote sensing data standards. Meanwhile, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure the quality of products to satisfy the demand of various applications. Calibration and validation are necessary steps to improve and evaluate data and product quality. Standardization of calibration and validation is critical to realize higher quality and better consistency and comparability. This paper presents the standardization progress related to remote sensing in ISO/TC211. Especially for SAR and optical sensors, standardization efforts related to calibration and validation of data and products are presented.
