Lev Karsavin’s works: from a history of Western medieval spirituality to a renewal of modern thought through a new approach to theology

After historical studies devoted to medieval spirituality in the West influenced by mystical experience, Karsavin turned to the philosophy of history and showed how medieval sources and free theological reflection could renew contemporary thought. His work also contains a reflection on temporality, and, because it is inseparable from his destiny, it illustrates the modern theory of commitment.
