摘要

We develop a sufficient condition (SC) methodology (as complemnt or alternative to traditional composite indicators) to identify drivers of life satisfaction and use it to test sufficient conditions for life satisfaction on data from a 2024 survey of 2000 individuals in Italy. Our findings reveal that sense of purpose, trust in institutions, responsibility for climate change, time spent caring for others, civic participation and education are critical components of sufficient conditions for life satisfaction or preventing dissatisfaction. Other well-known and relevant factors, such as income and health, are shown to be far from being sufficient conditions when taken alone.
