Influence of Internal Water on Dynamic Response of Underground Pipelines
摘要
In vital infrastructure projects, a thorough understanding of the seismic response characteristics of underground pipelines is crucial for seismic design. This study conducted a shaking table test using two distinct seismic excitations and analyzed the site soil’s acceleration response alongside the pipeline’s acceleration and strain responses. The objective was to elucidate the effect of the water inside the pipeline on the response of the pipeline and surrounding soil during seismic activity. The presence of water inside the pipeline influences the acceleration of nearby soil and the pipeline’s acceleration and strain. Under the Kobe and El-Centro waves, the surface acceleration amplification factors with four-fifths of the pipeline’s volume filled with water decreased by 20.59% and 14.63%, respectively, compared with the empty pipe condition. The maximum difference in the acceleration amplification factors between the top and bottom of the pipeline was 0.17 and 0.07, respectively. Therefore, in the seismic design of subterranean pipelines, the fluid level inside the pipeline is a critical factor that requires extensive investigation.
