摘要

In this paper, the analysis of the overconsolidation nature reveals that the maximum load experienced by the soil in the course of geological history is not the only, although the most important engineering characteristic of its overconsolidation. The effect on soil properties is determined by progressive overconsolidation, its duration in geologic time, and the transformation of structural bonds at particle contacts. A new methodological approach to determining the historical load of preconsolidation, theoretically substantiated and tested on experimental data for clayey soil strata with different geologic history, is proposed.
