Water Saturation Influence on Construction Properties of Eluvial Soils in the Foundation Bases
摘要
This paper presents a comparative analysis of the mechanical characteristics of claystone and sandstone soils of natural humidity and in a completely water-saturated state. The results of field and laboratory tests showed a significant decrease in the values of strength characteristics during saturation up to 65% for claystone and 33% for sandstone. The decrease in uniaxial compressive strength during water saturation reached 70% for claystone and 90% for sandstone, and the decrease in the deformation modulus was up to 80%.
