<p>This article analyses oral courtroom discourse from a jurilinguistic and translation-studies perspective, drawing on accelerated criminal procedures, in particular <i>comparution immédiate</i> (CI). The analysis aims above all to shed light on the characteristics of accelerated criminal procedures in France and to identify potential difficulties in interpreting in Polish. The main objective is therefore to provide guidelines for accurately interpreting legal terminology and procedural utterances, thereby ensuring reliable communication and, consequently, safeguarding the rights of each party. First, the article briefly presents the principles and scope of application of <i>comparution immédiate</i> in French law and <i>postępowanie przyspieszone</i> in Polish law. Second, it outlines the course of a <i>comparution immédiate</i> hearing before the French <i>tribunal correctionnel</i> and explains the origins of interpreting difficulties resulting from the asymmetry of the legal systems, while highlighting the importance of interactions between language and law in the dynamics of the hearing. Third, it examines the linguistic specificities of the <i>comparution immédiate</i> hearing, difficulties, and the challenges involved in interpreting criminal-law terminology from French into Polish. Methodologically, the author relies on direct participation in hearings, followed by the transcription and analysis of oral exchanges. Ultimately, this research supports interpreters in their daily practice by emphasising the importance of a comparative perspective on the legal context.</p>
