Introducing bibliographies
摘要
We suggest a new alliance betweem two previously unrelated disciplines, namely Bibliometrics and Library science, with the goal of building a complete representation of the scientific production of humanities, including books and book chapters, as well as journal articles in a multilingualist perspective. We introduce a new source of data that leverages on the authoritative bibliographical work of large scientific communities in humanities, producing highly representative collections of data called “bibliographies”. We advocate a new alliance between bibliometrics and the development of bibliographies towards complete metadata and citation data. Recent advancements on technology for interoperability of library resources will permit an automatic validation of author identity via Authority Control. We review > 100 bibliographies, show the potential of these sources as validated perimeters for citation extraction and document promising initiatives by specialized publishers in the field of humanities. We discuss how this perspective will contribute to a fair and responsible research assessment for SSH; with particular attention to humanities.
