摘要

This qualitative, narrative inquiry study aims to unveil, explore, and honor underrepresented minority students’ ways of knowing within the STEM environment at a private, selective institution. We utilize an asset-based approach, Funds of Knowledge, to frame students’ approach to STEM environments and other collegiate contexts with their familial lessons informing a range of experiences. Thus, we propose a Funds and Benefits Model to demonstrate the manner in which funds from family might be categorized and what type of benefits result from these funds. Our analysis reveals that participants’ social, personal, and professional Funds of Knowledge derive from and ultimately validate family.
