Transcending climate barriers: roads to resilience for rural entrepreneurship
摘要
Rural entrepreneurship provides solutions for depopulation and poverty in rural communities. Two important but overlooked concerns are understanding rural entrepreneurship outcomes under climate threats and supporting the resilient expansion of rural ventures. We utilize a balanced panel dataset of 1846 counties in China and find that climate change significantly undermines rural entrepreneurship. Mechanism analysis identifies two primary channels: agricultural production and the availability of potential entrepreneurs. Our exploration of climate adaptation strategies reveals that a synergistic policy mix that combines agricultural insurance with the e-commerce pilot policy substantially mitigates the adverse effects of climate change.
