摘要

This paper argues that ideological closure makes for brittle and fragile institutions prone to systematic errors in decision making. The aggressive and zealous demand for ideological conformity recognized in the areas of identity politics as ‘woke’, in fact extends to many other foreign and domestic policy areas, not typically recognized as ‘woke’. The paper posits that this can only be remedied through a robust return to objective, value-free analysis, and a rejection of the demand for ideological conformity. It demonstrates, through a series of case studies, how ideological closure has sealed off real feedback across several policy areas, reducing research to mere advocacy. It calls to replace this fragile culture of conformity with an anti-fragile one of radical doubt.
