<p>It is useful to identify the Certainty Trap, but conceptualization is not explanation. Sociologists concerned with the Trap should examine which social structures encourage or discourage it. Only when we understand what makes something more or less likely can we hope to ameliorate it. Based on existing theory, I suggest some relevant aspects of social structure.</p>

It is useful to identify the Certainty Trap, but conceptualization is not explanation. Sociologists concerned with the Trap should examine which social structures encourage or discourage it. Only when we understand what makes something more or less likely can we hope to ameliorate it. Based on existing theory, I suggest some relevant aspects of social structure.
