Dylatometric study of the sintering behavior of a bimodal 316L stainless steel powder

Sintering behavior of nano/micro bimodal powders of 316L stainless steel (SS 316L) is studied using dilatometry. The sintering of a bimodal SS 316L powder starts at a temperature of 960 K and is completed at 1450 K. The relative density reaches 0.92 TD. The sintering process is found to occur in two stages. For each stage, the master sintering curves are constructed and the values of apparent sintering activation energy and functional parameters are obtained. The powders exhibit monotonic shrinkage, indicating a homogeneous powder composition.
