Structure and mechanical properties of Al–5%Mg–Sc–Zr alloy after cryogenic deformation

The paper studies the behavior of homogenized ingot of the aluminum alloy 1570C with the grain size of 25 μm and low amount of excess phases after rolling at liquid nitrogen temperature to 75% reduction. Structural changes during rolling involve the formation of the dislocation cell structure in the highly deformed matrix, controlled by a low diffusion rate and high density of nanoscale coherent aluminides Al3(Sc, Zr). This results in the unique alloy strength at room temperature and balance with ductility.
