Alkylation of benzene with norbornene over crystalline and amorphous aluminosilicate catalysts
摘要
The alkylation of benzene with norbornene, yielding exo-2-phenylnorbornane (exo-2-phenylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptane), was carried out over crystalline and amorphous aluminosilicate catalysts for the first time. When norbornene is being in excess, di- and tricycloalkylated benzene by-products are also obtained. The selectivity of the process increases on going from an amorphous to a crystalline aluminosilicate catalyst. Optimal conditions have been established, that enable obtaining of exo-2-phenylnorbornane with an yield exceeding 95%.
