<p>The reactivity of α-alkyl-α-nitroacetophenones with 1,2-phenylenediamines and <i>o</i>-aminophenols in acidic medium was examined. The reaction pathway depends on the catalyst used and provides access to the corresponding benzoxazoles, benzimidazoles, and quinoxalines <i>via</i> the aza-Nef-type reaction.</p>

The reactivity of α-alkyl-α-nitroacetophenones with 1,2-phenylenediamines and o-aminophenols in acidic medium was examined. The reaction pathway depends on the catalyst used and provides access to the corresponding benzoxazoles, benzimidazoles, and quinoxalines via the aza-Nef-type reaction.
