<p>The reaction of 4-aryl-2-hydroxy-4-oxobut-2-enoic acids with 2-aminopyrimidines afforded the corresponding salts. Their structures were confirmed by IR spectroscopy, <sup>1</sup>H and <sup>13</sup>C NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. A number of new compounds were evaluated for anxiolytic activity using the open field test and the light-dark box test. The lead compound with potential anti-anxiety properties was revealed.</p>
