<p>First (trifluoromethyl)tetramethylruthenocene-based nickel pincer complexes NiC1[{2,5-(R<sub>2</sub>PCH<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>2</sub>}Ru(Cp<sup>F</sup>)] (Cp<sup>F</sup> = C<sub>5</sub>Me<sub>4</sub>CF<sub>3</sub>, R = Bu<sup>t</sup> (<b>3a</b>), Pr<sup>i</sup> (<b>3b</b>)) were synthesized. The reaction of complex <b>3a</b> with NaBH<sub>4</sub> was investigated. The diphosphine diborane compound {1,3-(H<sub>3</sub>B-P(Bu<sup>t</sup>)<sub>2</sub>CH<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>3</sub>}Ru(Cp<sup>F</sup>) (<b>4</b>) was obtained instead of the expected reaction product Ni(BH<sub>4</sub>)[{2,5-(Bu<sup>t</sup><sub>2</sub>PCH<sub>2</sub>)<sub>2</sub>C<sub>5</sub>H<sub>2</sub>}Ru(Cp<sup>F</sup>)]. Compounds <b>3a</b>, <b>3b</b>, and <b>4</b> were fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy. The structures of compounds <b>3a</b> and <b>4</b> were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.</p>

First (trifluoromethyl)tetramethylruthenocene-based nickel pincer complexes NiC1[{2,5-(R2PCH2)2C5H2}Ru(CpF)] (CpF = C5Me4CF3, R = But (3a), Pri (3b)) were synthesized. The reaction of complex 3a with NaBH4 was investigated. The diphosphine diborane compound {1,3-(H3B-P(But)2CH2)2C5H3}Ru(CpF) (4) was obtained instead of the expected reaction product Ni(BH4)[{2,5-(But2PCH2)2C5H2}Ru(CpF)]. Compounds 3a, 3b, and 4 were fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy. The structures of compounds 3a and 4 were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
