Introduction of a new efficient ionic liquid catalyst containing copper cation for the synthesis of benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidine-3-carbonitrile and tetrahydrobenzimidazo [2,1-b]quinazolin-1(2H)-one derivatives

We have unveiled a highly effective environmentally friendly protocol utilizing a single-vessel, multi-component approach for the production of benzo[4,5]imidazo [1,2-a]pyrimidine-3-carbonitrile and tetrahydrobenzimidazo [2,1-b]quinazolin-1(2H)-one derivatives using [C4(DABCO)2].(CuCl4) as a novel and powerful catalyst. The newly prepared catalyst was fully characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis. The key advantages of this novel procedure include short reaction times, enhanced product yields, a straightforward purification process and a benign impact on the environment because of the solvent-free nature of the reaction conditions and reusability of the promoter.
