<p>This paper delves into the transformative impact of university-industry collaboration (UIC) on university innovation performance, leveraging China’s “2011 Plan” as a policy backdrop. Through an empirical analysis of 1,355 Chinese universities from 2008 to 2017, we employ the difference-in-differences (DID) model to assess the effectiveness of UIC policy. The findings reveal that UIC policy significantly enhances university innovation performance, with universities’ R&amp;D expenditures emerging as a pivotal mediator in this relationship. The study further highlights that regional marketization levels influence the effectiveness of UIC policy, with greater marketization enhancing its impact. This research contributes to the literature by quantifying the influence of UIC on university innovation and offers policy insights for fostering a more integrated and efficient innovation ecosystem.</p>
