<p>Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs) play a critical role in supporting racially minoritized and low-income students. Despite their importance, MSIs continue to be overlooked in federal investments. This short research note delves into the historical and geographical factors influencing MSIs, generally, and in the vastly growing area of graduate education in STEM—and specifically computing—disciplines. Using a geography of opportunity lens to investigate the landscape of MSI offerings, we use a new publicly available database to assess relationships among the characteristics of MSIs offering graduate-level computing-related degrees, with a particular focus on institutional control, MSI type, and geographic region. Our results illuminate the geographic segregation of MSIs and their offerings. We attend to the implications of these disparities for advancing equitable educational policies.</p>
