Introduction

This paper provides an introduction to a collection of papers initially presented at a February 2023 Technology Policy Institute conference on antitrust policy. Each of the three papers presented here focuses on a different aspect of the current antitrust debates. Robert Crandall evaluates the early results of the Biden Administration’s more aggressive enforcement policy and, in addition, discusses proposed antitrust reform legislation. Ginger Jin and Liad Wagman focus on the recent leadership of the Federal Trade Commission. Finally, Michael Katz discusses the concepts of unfair competition, competition on the merits, and the consumer welfare standard, and applies that discussion to the current debates about platform self-preferencing.
