<p>In February of 2025, 25 scholars from across the United States met for a Summit at the University of California at Irvine. This Summit, which was sponsored by the federally-funded WRITE Center, focused on (1) developing evidence-based recommendations for improving writing instruction for middle- and high-school students and (2) providing recommendations for future research on the teaching of writing at these grades. The two day meeting resulted in nine recommendations for improving secondary writing instruction as well as seven recommendations for future research. These recommendations are presented and discussed here.</p>
