<p>Recently, both adults and children have witnessed significant changes in writing habits, with digital devices like computers, tablets, and mobile devices gradually supplanting handwriting. The current study aimed to explore the impact of various handwriting training methods, including traditional pencil handwriting, digitizing handwriting with an ink stylus on a tablet, and typing, on literacy skills. Additionally, it sought to determine the most effective training modality for enhancing letter and word knowledge acquisition. One hundred and four (<i>M</i><sub>age</sub> = 63.91&#xa0;months; 51 girls) Arab Israeli preschool children participated in the study. Results highlighted significant improvements in letter recognition, naming, and handwriting performance across all intervention groups, indicating enhanced literacy skills post-intervention. Traditional handwriting and digitizing handwriting groups exhibited superior letter recognition and naming compared to the typing group, underscoring the cognitive benefits of graphomotor activities in facilitating letter recognition. Handwriting interventions, whether on paper or a digitizing tablet, led to improved handwriting speed and accuracy, emphasizing the importance of motor coordination in producing written letters. Interestingly, the type of writing medium (paper vs. digitizing tablet) did not significantly impact handwriting performance, suggesting that both platforms offer viable options for handwriting practice. The study underscores the significance of incorporating structured handwriting activities into early childhood education to foster literacy skills. The findings contribute valuable insights to literacy instruction in preschool settings, informing evidence-based practices for optimizing early literacy development.</p>
