<p>Contemporary Ethics of Care has been consolidated as a new moral theory that defends the need and moral obligation to guarantee care for vulnerable people and groups. In this paper, we analyze the new Ethics of Care and its place in contemporary ethical theory, along with its central claim that the State is the guarantor for the provision of care to citizens. From an Austrian perspective, this thesis suffers from at least two weaknesses. First, it uncritically assumes a simplified image of homo economicus and, therefore, of the market; and, second, it does not take into consideration the problem of economic calculation and knowledge.</p>
