摘要

The present study aims to investigate the relationship between binge-watching on OTT platforms and sleep quality of college students. Along with the impact of Binge-watching on sleep quality, the study also examines its effect on students' overall mental health. The study aims to provide a deeper understanding of factors influencing the use of OTT platforms and to explore motivators that lead college students to binge-watch. Sixty participants were selected for this study using purposive sampling, and data were collected both quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitatively, data were collected using two questionnaires: the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality and the Binge-Watching Scale (BWS) to assess overall mental health. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using a correlational research design and regression analysis. Qualitative data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The study found that the major factors influencing college students' use of OTT platforms were content quality, ease of access, and convenience. The statistical analysis showed no significant Correlation between binge-watching and sleep quality. However, a positive correlation was found between binge-watching and college students' overall health, with escape from reality, fear of missing out (FOMO), loneliness, entertainment, and curiosity as the major motivators. The study finds no significant relationship between binge-watching and sleep quality. But there is a positive correlation between binge-watching and overall health and well-being. Qualitative findings indicated that binge-watching is primarily driven by escapism, entertainment, and social factors, while, in part, a positive correlation was found between binge-watching and overall health among college students, with escape from reality, FOMO, loneliness, entertainment, and curiosity as factors in binge-watching and its relationship with health.
