<p>The growing population demands expanded and improved healthcare services to meet the growing healthcare needs. Due to high population growth, there is an upward trend of both communicable and non-communicable diseases. This study examines the determinants of public healthcare demand in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan, using a Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) over eight years across 24 districts. The study uses the GMM and mapping to visualize the healthcare supply and the burden of patients over hospitals, doctors, and beds in each district. Results show that factors such as the number of doctors, beds, literacy ratio, income, and population all influence public sector healthcare visits. Moreover, access to well-equipped hospitals in terms of beds, well-trained healthcare providers, and health literacy also play a significant role in shaping an individual’s decisions about public healthcare and the choice of healthcare providers. Human resources are a vital part of healthcare resources because of their direct interaction with the patient. Education is a key determinant of healthcare demand and is likely to improve confidence and make an individual capable of making healthcare-related decisions timely and wisely. An increase in income results in increased demand for public healthcare facilities, which is a positive sign for public healthcare providers. For individuals, healthcare demand analysis assists in selecting healthcare providers based on cost, quality of care, and medical treatment and precautions. For policymakers, the information can help in the province’s healthcare policy, resource allocation, and health system design.</p>
