CEO duality is currently a prominent topic of discussion globally, particularly in the realm of corporate governance. The research utilises a systematic literature review strategy using the Scopus database to analyse the CEO duality literature. The study utilises a systematic methodology to identify and analyse relevant research publications on CEO duality. This paper compiles the latest findings from various studies to gain a deeper understanding of the determinants and consequences associated with CEO duality. The literature samples were sourced from the Scopus database, covering the period from 1995 to 2024. Additionally, Poisson regression and negative binomial regression were employed to analyse the factors influencing CEO duality research. To further enhance the robustness of the findings, the current research also applies quantile least squares. The review analysis reveals several important findings regarding CEO duality and its implications for corporate governance. On one hand, CEO duality can have positive effects by granting access to valuable information and resources from various firms. This can enhance the organisation’s functioning and improve its overall performance. On the other hand, there is a risk that dual CEOs may struggle to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities effectively, which could hinder their ability to monitor and manage the company. This study enhances our understanding of CEO duality and its impact on firms by conducting a comprehensive evaluation of existing literature. It integrates the latest research findings and provides valuable insights into the determinants and consequences of CEO duality in corporate governance. Additionally, the research emphasises the importance of implementing effective corporate governance practices to manage both the benefits and potential drawbacks of CEO duality. To determine the influencing factors of CEO duality, the study utilised Poisson and negative binomial regression methods, as well as quantile least squares regression as an additional analytical tool. To the author’s knowledge, this is the first study to conduct a detailed investigation of CEO duality.

摘要
