Digital diaspora: mapping emotional migration and user personas from X to Bluesky
摘要
This study investigates the emotional and discursive contours of platform migration from X to Bluesky using a corpus of Google Playstore reviews (n = 21,400) of Bluesky application. Drawing on media migration theory, affective publics, and algorithmic trust, the study apply lexicon-based emotion analysis, K-means clustering, and topic modeling to identify four distinct user personas: Angry Migrants, Hopeful Switchers, Skeptical Watchers, and Platform Loyalists. Reviews referencing Twitter (now X) exhibit significantly higher emotional intensity-both positive (e.g., trust, anticipation) and negative (e.g., anger, sadness)-than those without such references, indicating affective carryover. Each persona reflects unique concerns around moderation, platform stability, and normative expectations. The study’s findings highlight that digital migration is not a neutral act but an emotionally saturated process shaped by prior grievances, future hopes, and algorithmic imaginaries.
