Related variety and spatial distribution of tourism activities in the “Pueblos Mágicos” of the state of Mexico
摘要
Tourism is a key driver of Mexico’s economy, and the Pueblos Mágicos program plays a central role in fostering regional development. This study analyzes six Pueblos Mágicos in the State of Mexico—Metepec, Valle de Bravo, Tepotzotlán, Jilotepec, Ixtapan de la Sal, and San Martín de las Pirámides—focusing on the spatial distribution and diversification of tourism activities. Using spatial tools such as ANNI, KDE, and LISA, alongside the RVI, the research identifies tourism clusters and assesses innovation potential. Results show that Jilotepec and Metepec exhibit high economic diversification and clustering conducive to innovation, while Valle de Bravo presents both low RVI and limited spatial articulation. The findings underscore the need for differentiated policy strategies that promote diversification, spatial balance, and network strengthening in tourism development.
