<p>This paper is based on a plenary presentation I gave at the North American Productivity Workshop (NAPW XII) held at the Virginia Tech Research Center in Arlington Virginia in June 2025 honoring my friend and co-author Léopold Simar who received a Lifetime Achievement Award. My focus is primarily on my experience working with Léopold, and some of the work that we have done together as well as some of the fun we have had together. I hope that young researchers will find this story encouraging and will see it as a lesson on the importance of going to conferences and talking to people, without which I would not have met my friend Léopold.</p>
