A Historical Study of Gondar Town’s Infrastructural Development: A Case Study of Electricity, Water Supply, Transportation, and Housing During the Military Regime

This study focuses on the physical infrastructure of Gondar city from 1974 to 1991, including housing, roads, water and electrical supplies. Despite previous research, the study investigated what the military government’s policies and socioeconomic strategies influenced the town’s infrastructure, highlighting both progress and challenges. Using primary and secondary sources, the study provides a comprehensive analysis of the period in Gondar, to equip the government and society with researched facts to learn from past mistakes and to implement effective reforms. Therefore, the researchers recommend that the government prioritize infrastructure development in Gondar to improve living standards and increase the town’s competitiveness.
