“Identity and Belonging: Navigating Cultural and Political Crossroads”
摘要
Identity is a key theme in The Parisian, as Hammad struggles with belongingness in a foreign country. Cultural strings, multi-displacement, and other historical settings have been fabricated, which forms the major plot frame of the novel. Hammad personified those living endeavors in the political and cultural intersection. In addition, looking at Midhat’s self-feeling in relation to overall political conditions in respective time frames, the work makes clear the interdependence between self-identity and group identity. Parisian, by analogy is, therefore, a great marble in the work of art as it connects history and relevant concepts, people, and crosscutting themes.
