<p>This study explores the diffusion of climate change policy innovation in Jordan through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with senior officials from key governmental bodies, international development organizations, and international experts. Findings highlight internal determinants, including the influence of elites, rent-seeking behavior, ideological stances on climate change, the prevailing political climate, social expectations, and officials’ professional backgrounds. The diffusion mechanisms include policy learning, conditionality, externality, regulatory quality, and geographical proximity, while emulation and coercion are not evident. It contributes to the understudied political dimensions of climate change, providing insights into the dynamics surrounding climate change policy innovation in Jordan, a developing country.</p>
