Mapping of Loci Conferring Resistance to Black rot Causing Pathogen (Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris) in Cabbage

The black rot disease caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris is an important disease of cabbage, affecting the crop growth worldwide. In order to identify resistant loci against this pathogen, 200 F2 individuals raised from a cross between January King Sel. Improved (resistant parent) and Golden Acre (susceptible parent) were evaluated for their response against target pathogen under glasshouse conditions. The average percentage severity was 43.49% among the population of F2 line. Correlation coefficient for percentage severity and symptom score was 0.986. A linkage map spanning a distance of 1538 cM was obtained utilizing RAPD and SSR markers. Four QTLs were identified for symptom score i.e. XccDs1-1, XccDs2-1, XccDs3-1 and XccDs3-2 on linkage group c1, c2 and c3. Two QTLs present on linkage group c3 namely, XccDs3-2 and XccDs3-1 had phenotypic variance of 31.8% and 14.4%, respectively, with QTL XccDs3-2 identified at a LOD score of 12.8. The identified QTLs can be utilized in marker assisted breeding programmes for incorporating black rot resistance in cabbage.
