<p><i>Ficus benghalensis</i> (family moraceae) is a tall and wide-spread prominent medicinal tree, extensively utilized in traditional medicine in India and Pakistan. Despite its thorough validation and extensive screening on phytochemistry and biological activity, no endeavor has been made to systematically compile the phytochemicals and subsequent biological activities till date. The present work was designed to provide an up-to-date, reliable and authentic review on the phytochemicals of the plant and the resultant pharmacological potential explored <i>in-vitro</i> and <i>in-vivo</i> and subsequent toxicity studies executed on crude extract or the isolated bioactive compounds of the plant. The data was extracted by detailed probing of key databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, &amp; Science Direct and a total of 110 articles were included based on PRISMA guidelines. English language studies of the plant reporting traditional uses, chemical constituents, isolated compounds &amp; their biological activities were selected. The plant is reported to be abundant with fatty acids &amp; their derivatives, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, sterols, tannins, saponin, glycosides, terpenoids, sugars &amp; sugar derivatives, proteins &amp; amino acids and a number of miscellaneous compounds responsible for various pharmacological activities including antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective and neuropharmacological capabilities. Toxicity studies on different animals proved it safe for acute and sub-chronic investigations in animal models. Nevertheless, thorough investigations are advised to ascertain the biological tendencies of the isolated compounds in order to obtain cost-effective and innovative lead compounds for future pharmaceuticals.</p>
