<p>Causation is grounded in explanation; or so I argue here. According to the view which I propose, the fact that event <i>c</i> causes event <i>e</i> is grounded in two facts: the occurrence of <i>c</i> explains the occurrence of <i>e</i>, and <i>c</i> and <i>e</i> are wholly distinct. After formulating and explicating this view, I give three arguments for it. The first is based on a complete reduction of one relation to another which this view affords. The second is based on plausible claims about causal facts being identical to certain sorts of conjunctions. And the third is based on answers to explanatory challenges which this view supports.</p>
