<p>The constituent compositions of essential oils from herbs of common yarrow (<i>Achillea millefolium</i> L.), cartilaginous yarrow (<i>Achillea cartilaginea</i> Ledeb. ex Rchb.), and noble yarrow (<i>Achillea nobilis</i> L.) were comparatively studied by gas-chromatography(mass-spectrometry (GC-MS) and spectrophotometry. It was determined using GC-MS that the samples of essential oils from herbs of the studied <i>Achillea</i> species were characterized by high contents of mono- and bicyclic monoterpenes, among which common constituents were eucalyptol (cineole), caryophyllene oxide, β-pinene, α-terpineol, 4-terpineol, ã-terpinene, camphene, and β-cubenene. However, the fundamental difference between essential oils was the level of chamazulene contents: in <i>A. millefolium</i>, 7.53%; in <i>A. cartilaginea</i>, 0.22%; and in <i>A. nobilis</i>, absent. It was also determined that the content of proazulenes in <i>A. millefolium</i> herb was significantly higher than those in <i>A. cartilaginea</i> and <i>A. nobilis</i> (0.0411, 0.0012, and 0.0015%, respectively), although the non-pharmacopoeial <i>Achillea</i> species differed in a higher content of essential oil. Consequently, the results of the conducted studies indicated the expediency of standardization of <i>Achillea</i> herbs not only in terms of the contents of essential oil and total flavonoids, but also in terms of the contents of proazulenes, which determine the anti-inflammatory properties of preparations of this raw material.</p>
