In-Vivo and In-Vitro Evaluation of Anti-Inflammatory, Analgesic, Antipyretic, Antioxidant and Thrombolytic Activities of Silymarin-Based Polyherbal Extract

The investigation was executed to assess the in-vivo anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties of silymarin extract with other reported pharmacological extracts, which were given at doses of 0.25 and 0.5 mg/kg to the animals. According to the protocols, anti-inflammatory activities were assessed against histamine, dextran, and carrageenan associated with inflammation. The analgesic activity was evaluated using the outcomes of the hot plate and writing tests, while the antipyretic effect was studied by inhibiting hyperpyrexia. The antioxidant and thrombolytic activities were also studied following standard protocols. The investigation of the in-vivo anti-inflammatory efficiency of the silymarin-based polyherbal extract was significant against carrageenan, dextran and histamine. The in-vitro anti-inflammatory activities also had significant effects. The analgesic activity showed a significant result with percentage inhibitions of 58% and 67% in the writhing test and maximum inhibitions of 56% and 58% at 120 min in the hot plate test compared with standard tramadol 64%. The antipyretic activity was also significant by inhibiting hyperpyrexia between 90% and 100% at the 5th hour. The antioxidant activity of SBPH extract also had significant effects but not regarding thrombolytic activity. The results conclude that the silymarin-based polyherbal extract possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, antioxidant activities, and thrombolytic activity to some extent.
