摘要

This work demonstrates the generation of a Q-switched laser in a neodymium-doped fiber laser (NDFL) cavity incorporated erbium oxide as a saturable absorber. NDFL pumped with 808 nm laser diode generated Q-switched pulses at the operating wavelength of 1088 nm without any filter due to a strong Nd3+ transition from 4F5/2 to 4I11/2 energy level. The pulsed laser exhibits stable Q-switching behavior within the pump power of 167.04–205.28 mW with the shortest pulse width of 2.41 μs. As the pump power adjusted in the same range, the repetition rate varied between 34.18 kHz to 41.72 kHz. The signal-to-noise ratio of 55.39 dB from the radio frequency analyzer indicates these pulses operate in a highly stable manner. In the authors’ knowledge, this is the first demonstration of Q-switched NDFL utilizing erbium-oxide as SA device.
