Establishment and research of individual-based markov chain model for COVID-19 transmission in a boarding school

Schools are key places for the prevention and control of infectious diseases due to highly populated and frequent human contact. In this paper, we retrospectively analyzed the spread of COVID-19 in a boarding school in order to provide reference for the prevention and control of infectious diseases transmission of schools. Based on the study laws and life patterns of teachers and students in the boarding school, contact networks are constructed to depict local contact, and multiple routes coupling Markov chain models are established combining with global contact. Through analysis we find that the transmission risk of students is higher than that of teachers on the whole, and the transmission risk of students (teachers) of lower grades is higher than that of senior students (teachers). In addition, the priority contact inhibits the transmission of COVID-19, while global contact promotes the transmission of COVID-19 among individuals at different grades. If conditions permit, appropriate reductions in the accommodation scale of the dormitory and class sizes are beneficial for COVID-19 control.
