摘要

In the article, it is proposed to reflect on Francoism and its culture by applying postcolonial criticism. As a starting point, the historiographical conceptions of Paul Preston and Sebastian Balfour are taken, which link the genesis of Francoism with the colonial conflict in Morocco. The study perspective proposed in the article constitutes a complementary approach to essentialist approaches, which reflect on the nature of Francoism and its culture in an ideological context. Instead, postcolonial theory allows focusing on the gestation of the dictatorship and its cultural manifestations from a discursive perspective. Following the conceptions of Edward Said, special attention is paid to the representation of the Other in relation to the Moroccan conflict in Spain during the first third of the twentieth century. Based on a comparative analysis of two literary texts: En la guerra (Episodios de Melilla) (1909) by Carmen de Burgos and Poema de la Bestia y el Ángel (1938) by José María Pemán, similarities are detected in the use of enemy representation strategies, especially animalization.
