Neuronal-Glial Interactions in Learning and Behavior under Normal Conditions and during Oncogenesis

This review examines modern studies of glial-neuronal interactions during the formation of new experience in normal conditions and during the development of pathology in the brain, in particular tumor growth. Modern concepts hold that glial cells play a key role in synaptic plasticity, the regulation of neural activity, and memory formation. During the oncological process in the brain, the activity of atypical cells affects neuron-glial interactions, changing the functional architecture of the brain, though this is not always accompanied by a loss of the functions associated with the area in which the tumor is located. The data analyzed here suggest the occurrence of mutual adaptation of healthy and atypical cells to coexistence, as well as the possibility that tumor cell metabolism changes due specialization of neurons.
